ISSA President Tim Hogan
ISSA recently concluded their Annual Meeting for High School Sailing. This is the 83rd year in existence and our program is in great shape. Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) has added 100 high school sailing teams in the last 5 years. We are now up to 465 schools and have approximately 5,000 sailors participating. This growth is fantastic but we have a number of challenges that arise with this expansion.
Great Lakes Championship
November 16-17, 2013 Chicago Yacht Club, Monroe Station
The 20 teams that qualified for the 2013 Great Lakes Championships were greeted with strong winds and a stronger weather forecast. Saturdays racing started in 15 to 20 knots with occasional gusts to 25. The laser division struggled on Saturday with the bigger breeze. Both 420 divisions managed the conditions a little better. As the afternoon went on the wind decreased to 10 to 15 knots. The race committee managed to get 6 races in each of the 3 divisions.
Missa sent 4 teams to the ACC Regatta sailed in Annapolis.
Congratulations to Malcolm Lamphere (Lake Forest HS) for taking home 3rd at the 2013 Cressy Championship! Strong performances from all the MISSA reps as well - Wade Wagner finished 13th in Full, Augie Dale 10th in Radial, and Drake Lyon 12th in Radial.
Matthew Long (Dos Pueblos HS, PCISA) had a strong day to win the Laser Fleet and Gary Prieto (Southold HS, MASSA) had all top six finishes on Sunday to take the Radial Fleet.
