Rochester Yacht Club Hosts MASSA District Cressy Qualifier
Septemebr 14-15, 2013
Rochester Yacht Club hosted the MASSA Cressy Qualifer on Lake Ontario for 40 Radials and 10 full rigs. Cory Sertl, PRO and regatta chair, with Jimmy Carminati, NYISA-NW League Director, ran the event which featured 12 races over two days. Saturday's breeze started out as an offshore Southwesterly with unsettled conditions and leftover waves for the first few races until the Northwester came through with the latter races in 15 knots. Courses were four leg windward leeward twice around utilizing a reaching finish from the gate mark to the committee boat.
Sunday featured a steady Southwest breeze 8-10 knots, flat water, with waves of pressure coming down on each side of the course. Four races completed the series on Saturday and everyone was packed up, awards presented and on their way home by 2:30pm.
Congratulations to Kyle Comerfrod, Conner Swikart, Alex Paggi and Eric Roos will represent MASSA in Full-rig Lasers, along with Radial sailors Andrew Piopolo, Gary Prieto, Alex Hanna and Andy Widmeier at the Cressy SInglehanded Nationals in Newport, RI early this November.
Many thanks to numerous Rochester High School sailing parents and others who volunteered, as well as Suzanne and Scott Ellis who lent their expertise from hosting the last two years' events in NJ.
